The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City‘s Lisa Barlow is opening up about the “cracks” in her marriage to John Barlow.
Though Lisa had been tight-lipped with her castmates about any relationship issues — much to the ladies’ frustration — a psychic reading that hit super close to home on Season 6, Episode 5, made all of her protective barriers crumble.
During Lisa’s one-on-one session at the group lunch that Whitney Rose hosted, an “intuitive consultant” named Terence did nothing more than ask why she was “just rebuilding trust” with someone who is a water sign, before Lisa’s voice broke, assuming that he was referring to John. She then swiftly reached for a pair of sunglasses to mask her tears.
Terence went on to describe Lisa and John as being on “different paths,” likening their dynamic to “an elastic band” that keeps “snapping back together.” He also sensed that they “need to figure out how to communicate” again amidst “a lot of angst and frustration” in their marriage.

Lisa’s telling response? “That’s true,” she confirmed, before adding, “I feel like he’s my best friend, my person.”
The psychic agreed but pointed out that she and her husband are “not on the same team,” to which Lisa replied, “We’re not.”
The mom of two added more details in a confessional, though she had to pause multiple times to prevent herself from becoming too “emotional” while she choked back tears.
“Marriage is hard,” Lisa explained to a producer. “Lately, I think with everything we have going on, we’re, like, on totally different pages. … Sometimes it feels like totally different planets.”
As she concluded, “I just feel, like, alone sometimes, you know? And it hurts.”
Inside Lisa and John Barlow’s marital problems
Thought Lisa didn’t go into specifics about what exactly the disconnect was between her and John, multiple flashbacks shed some light on the matter.
First, RHOSLC‘s Oct. 14 episode showed a tense conversation between the couple that occurred one month prior to the psychic reading in which they discussed 20-year-old son Jack Barlow’s living arrangements when he returned from his two-year Mormon mission to Colombia.
“Jack and I were talking about two or three weeks ago. I actually was in favor of him getting an apartment,” John said, prompting a stunned Lisa to fire back, “You were?! I don’t think he should be allowed to move out.”Â

Going back even further to a year ago, another flashback showed Lisa telling John that he needs to “take it a little more seriously,” adding, “I think it bothers me because I feel lonely in my feelings.”
After John replied, “How can I take it more seriously? I stress about it just as much as you do,” she continued, “You don’t act like you do, and that frustrates me.”
Earlier on RHOSLC Season 6, Bronwyn Newport also claimed to Whitney that legal documents related to a lawsuit Lisa was facing indicated that she had allegedly borrowed money from the “mystery man” that Angie Katsanevas had referenced in the past, without John’s knowledge. It remains unclear, however, if that accusation caused any marital strain, and Lisa has vehemently denied all of the legal claims against her.

Prior to Lisa’s reading, Heather Gay didn’t need any special supernatural gifts to make a prediction of her own: that the psychic would have his “work cut out” for him, given that she seems to puts up a facade of perfection.
Despite her emotional session with Terence, Lisa returned to form by the time she rejoined the other ladies around the lunch table.
When Whitney asked how it went, Lisa vaguely replied, “Um, I thought it was really good. I think he hit on things that were, like… with John, spot-on. I thought it was good.”
As Whitney added in a confessional, “I’ve never met someone quite like Lisa Barlow, but I’ve probably wasted too many brain cells trying to figure out why Lisa will only keep it surface level with us and why she has to appear to be perfect. Like, it’s sad that she can’t just get real and be vulnerable.”
As she slowly unpacks her marital strife with John, find out why Lisa said the RHOSLC drama “feels very different” on Season 6.
