California police are looking for a 9-year-old girl who has not been seen or heard from in a year.
On Tuesday, a school administrator reported Melodee Buzzard’s prolonged absence from school to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office. Officers made contact with Buzzard’s mother at a residence — but determined Buzzard was not there and her mother could not explain where she was, according to the Santa Maria Times.
Police said their last verified sighting of Buzzard was a year ago. They also noted the last known picture of her (featured in this article) was from two years earlier.
It is unclear whether police suspect foul play in Buzzard’s disappearance, and if her mother is considered a suspect. However, police described her as “at risk,” according to KTLA.
Anyone with information regarding Buzzard’s whereabouts is asked to call Santa Barbara County investigators at 805-681-4150. Anonymous calls can be made to their tipline at 805-681-4171.
