An Arizona man took a woman out for some Chinese food, invited her to his apartment, then shot her in the head while the two of them were having sex, according to police. He allegedly wrapped her body in blankets and tossed it in a dumpster before heading to work.
Nathaniel Brown Jr., 41, was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of second-degree murder and concealment of a dead body after police found Gabrielle Hill, 34, inside a dumpster outside Brown’s Phoenix apartment complex, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime.
Brown allegedly told investigators he met Hill at a Chinese restaurant near 51st Avenue and McDowell Road in Glendale on Oct. 16 and invited her back to his place. While the pair was having sex, a gun was sitting on the couch near his head, according to the affidavit.
Brown allegedly told cops he thought the weapon was unloaded and didn’t have a magazine inserted when he grabbed it and accidentally shot Hill. He said he panicked, passed out and did not wake up until around 3 a.m., according to the affidavit. He then wrapped Hill’s body in blankets and moved it to a dumpster before leaving for work on Oct. 17, according to Phoenix police.

Brown allegedly contacted some co-workers and gave them a different account of what happened, allegedly claiming Hill had shot herself “during sex,” the affidavit says. He told at least one person that the gun fired as he tried to take it from her, according to police.
“Officers learned from witnesses … that Brown was having sexual relations with some ‘tweaker chick’ when she shot herself during sex,” the affidavit states. “[One co-worker] advised he received a phone call from Nathaniel … and learned Nathaniel was having sexual intercourse with a ‘tweaker’ when she pulled a gun out during sex and shot herself.”
Brown allegedly met Hill after work, according to police. He told investigators that they had “gone to eat Chinese food, got ‘f—ed up,’ had sexual intercourse, and it was during this time the victim grabbed a gun without a magazine,” the affidavit states. “Nathaniel tried to take the gun away when it went off and shot her,” according to police.
Detectives asked why Brown did not seek medical assistance for Hill and he claimed he feared being accused of shooting her. He also told investigators he blacked out, according to the affidavit.
Glendale police responded to Brown’s residence around 7:15 a.m. Saturday after receiving a report about Hill’s body being found. Officers detained Brown at his workplace in Glendale, where investigators noticed what appeared to be blood on his clothing and hands, according to the affidavit.
Police say they followed a trail of blood from Brown’s apartment toward a dumpster, where they found Hill’s body with signs of head trauma. A search of the residence allegedly turned up what appeared to be blood on the couch in the living room, on a table, in a bedroom and in a laundry basket.
Brown later admitted to detectives that he hid the gun beneath his kitchen sink, according to police.
The Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner listed Hill’s manner of death as undetermined as of Oct. 20, noting that findings remain preliminary until a final medical examiner’s report is completed.
A judge set Brown’s bond at $1 million cash, describing him as a “danger to the community and flight risk,” according to a Superior Court release order. He was scheduled to return to court on Oct. 23.
