Who Is Shawn Springs? Meet Gizelle Bryant’s Rumored “New Man”

The “word on the street” in the DMV is that The Real Housewives of Potomac‘s Gizelle Bryant has a special new man in her life: Shawn Springs.

Stacey Rusch spilled the tea on Gizelle’s love life during an outing with Jassi Rideaux on Season 10, Episode 3. While lamenting how the RHOP OG was among those who were skeptical of her reconciliation with ex-husband Thiemo Rusch, Stacey added, “I don’t know if you’re aware, but Gizelle has a new man.”

After displaying some photos of Gizelle apparently on a date with a mystery man, Stacey gave viewers a couple of clues about his identity. Though she never mentioned him by name, Stacey referred to Gizelle’s potential new love interest as a “retired NFL player,” while Jassi noted that he is 50 years old.

Stacey asked if Jassi’s now-husband, Darius Harris, who currently plays in the NFL, might know him, to which she replied, “I think that he probably knows of him.”

Luckily for viewers, his name was revealed, however, when cameras eventually zoomed in on a shot of Stacey and Jassi looking at Google search results for “Shawn Springs.” Here’s what you need to know about Gizelle’s rumored “new man.”

Inside Shawn Springs’ professional football career

Shawn played in the NFL as a cornerback for 13 years, beginning his pro football career with the Seattle Seahawks who selected him in the first round of the 1997 draft. He later joined the Washington Commanders, before eventually retiring with the New England Patriots in 2010.

In 2022, Shawn was inducted into the Ohio State University Athletic Hall of Fame.

“The school and football program have meant so much to me and my family, and to accept the award with so many of them there was a true blessing,” Shawn wrote on Instagram at the time.

A DMV native, Shawn followed in the footsteps of his late father, Ron Springs, who also played football for both Ohio State and in the NFL (for the Dallas Cowboys and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers). His mom, Teresa Thomas, served in the United States Army.

“As an athlete, both parents were role models for me,” Shawn previously explained to WiST. “It wasn’t easy to be a woman in the military in the ’70s and ’80s, but my mom believed the choices she made were what her family needed. My dad … always encouraged me, ‘Just go for it. Don’t be afraid to fail. Learn from your failures and go from there.'”

Shawn is a father of four children, Samari, Sedona, Shawn II, and Skyler, all who often appear on his Instagram.

How the RHOP cast reacted to Gizelle Bryant and Shawn Springs dating rumors

Though Gizelle has yet to find out on RHOP that rumors about her dating life are circulating, a few of the women have already weighed in. 

Stacey, for one, used Gizelle supposedly hiding her new romance to point out a double standard within the group.

“It is beyond me that Gizelle calls me a liar and says that I’m a phony and a fake, when she’s the one faking it all along,” Stacey noted in a confessional. “Why are the standards with me so different than everybody else?”

As she added to Jassi, “So, while she’s worried about my man, we need to find out about her man.”

Jassi, meanwhile, was here for the dating rumors, replying, “Baby, Gizelle keepin’ it right, keepin’ it tight.”

After RHOP‘s Oct. 19 episode aired, Keiarna Stewart stopped by Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, where host Andy Cohen asked if she believed the speculation about Gizelle and her “new man” were true.

“I mean, yeah, I could believe that,” Keiarna answered. “Gizelle is fine as hell. Why wouldn’t she have a new man? … Listen, I believe Gizelle has a man, or men…”
