Britani Bateman credited her psychic reading on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City with helping her realize that she needed to “take a step back” from her romantic relationship and focus on “what’s really, really important”: her daughter Olivia Bateman.
Since making her RHOSLC debut last year, Britani had been open about her estrangement from her two girls, but viewers had never met either of them until 20-year-old Olivia agreed to get together with her mom at a coffee shop during Season 6, Episode 6.
In a confessional, Britani gave a brief backstory on what had led to their falling out.
“With my daughters, when I got divorced from their dad, I just desperately tried to create this perfect happy family,” she explained. “So, I got married again, but I was just constantly caught in this tug of war between husband [and] children. And I’m thinking, ‘Oh, I can finally get my kids… when I’m a good enough wife.’ And then, eventually, my kids moved in with their dad. And so, I failed miserably.”

As Olivia pointed out during their emotional meetup, at that point, Britani knew “nothing” about her life anymore. That prompted the RHOSLC friend to insist that she really wanted “to get to know” Olivia again, adding, “I would love the opportunity, if you’ll let me.”
Olivia’s response? “I just don’t wanna get hurt again,” she said, to which Britani replied, “I’m sorry.”
As the mother-daughter duo work toward rebuilding their bond on RHOSLC, here’s what you need to know about Olivia and Britani’s relationship.

As Olivia reminded Britani on RHOSLC‘s Oct. 21 episode, she’d recently tried to have a heart-to-heart with her during a 30-minute break between jobs. However, Britani’s on-and-off boyfriend Jared Osmond showed up at her home around the same time.
“You guys just started making out in front of me, didn’t even glance at me,” Olivia recalled. “Now that he’s not here, you’re giving me your full attention, which I appreciate, but I want you to want to get to know me and to want to spend time with me over anyone, especially someone that you’re dating, not dating, who knows?”
Taking her turn in a solo confessional, Olivia opened up more about her perspective on their family history.

“My mom was everything that you’d want in a mom,” Olivia shared, noting that Britani was “so present” in her life growing up. “Every field trip, every dance recital, every school talent show, she was there. And she was so much fun.”
When Olivia was 12 years old, however, Britani remarried, and that’s when their dynamic took a downward turn.
“It was like somebody flipped a switch in her brain to turn that person off completely,” Olivia continued. “And so, to go from, ‘I love my mom; she comes with me to everything’ to be begging for her attention was so hard, because I knew that she can be a loving mother who cares about her kids. I know it’s in her.”
As Olivia told Britani directly, “I just think that it’s important that you take accountability and realize that I wanted a mom. … I feel like it’s important for you to figure out why you prioritize a relationship with a man over me, so it doesn’t happen again. Because that truly is my worst fear.”

Britani tearfully apologized to Olivia and promised to make a better effort, moving forward. Though RHOSLC Season 6 is just getting underway, Olivia’s Instagram offers some promising clues about where her relationship with Britani stands today.
Olivia’s first IG post is a March 2025 birthday tribute from Britani that featured several throwback photos of them from her childhood.
“Happy 20th Birthday my sweet baby love,” Britani captioned the March 18 post. “Oh, how time flies… From this little 9-year-old girl you’ve grown up into the most driven, smart, kind & beautiful young woman. I’m so proud of you.”
Then, on June 26, Olivia shared a mother-daughter selfie with Britani from a quick 24-hour trip they took to Los Angeles. In the comments section, Britani wrote, “Absolutely gorgeous” and added a red heart emoji.
More recently, Olivia also accompanied Britani to Bravo’s Las Culturistas Culture Awards in July and “had a blast” during their big night out. After Britani commented, “Oh my gosh the best trip EVER!! You were so stunningly gorgeous,” Olivia replied, “Love you” and added three smiling face with hearts emojis.
