A Mississippi woman faces drug charges after her two young children drowned in a swimming pool on Monday, and police say “additional charges are pending.”
Gautier Police said they were called to a home later Monday afternoon and found the two children “unresponsive near a swimming pool.” First responders began life-saving measures, and the children were taken to Ocean Springs Hospital by ambulance, but they did not survive.
Amber Goldman, 36, was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy that has deeply affected our community,” said Chief of Police David Bever. “Our hearts are with the family, friends, and first responders impacted by this heartbreaking loss. We ask everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers as investigators continue to seek answers.”
WLOX reported that the children were two boys, ages 2 and 5 and said that the coroner determined they died from drowning.
Police did not provide any additional information, including how the brothers ended up in the pool, but said the investigation is “ongoing.”
According to jail records, Goldman is being held on a $2,500 bond.
