LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. (TCN) — A man has been charged with first-degree murder in the Nov. 14 shooting death of 21-year-old TikTok influencer Girlalala. They were reportedly in a long-term relationship.
In a news release, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a medical call at around 7 p.m. on Nov. 14. They found the victim, whom officials identified as Maurice Harrison but who went by Girlalala, in the passenger seat of a vehicle with gunshot wounds. She was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
According to the sheriff’s office, 25-year-old Shanoyd Whyte Jr. was taken into custody at the scene. The two were allegedly in his car arguing, which escalated into a physical confrontation during which Girlalala was shot.Â
Whyte Jr. reportedly told detectives that he and Girlalala had been in a relationship for several years. He was charged with first-degree murder with a firearm.
Surveillance video captured the moments immediately following the shooting, NBC Miami reports. In the video, Whyte Jr. reportedly stepped out of the car with a firearm in his hand. When Girlalala leaned out of the passenger door, Whyte Jr. reportedly placed her back into the car.
Girlalala, a hairstylist based in Pompano Beach, Florida, had more than 288,000 followers on TikTok, according to The Independent. She described herself as a wig influencer and often posted day-in-the-life videos.
NBC Miami reports that her fans are resurfacing videos from her career that appear to show conflict in her relationship, describing one video where she had cuts on her face.
Law enforcement says the investigation remains active.Â
