The Married to Medicine OB/GYN shared the news in a recent interview with The Daily Dish, confirming that 2025 will mark her last year delivering babies.

“I will go to a GYN-office-only practice,” she said. “I have one more hospital call that I’m going to take in December, then I am done with that portion of my career.”

Dr. Simone Whitmore will no longer practice obstetrics

Dr. Simone became a board-certified OB/GYN in 1999 after completing her residency at Boston University and Boston Medical Center. She then relocated to the Atlanta area and opened her solo practice, North Perimeter OB/GYN, in 2004. She still owns and operates the office to this day.

The Spelman College and East Tennessee State University alum said strictly focusing on gynecology will significantly reduce her office hours, effectively giving her more personal time and a healthier work-life balance.

“I am looking forward to having the extra time — getting eight hours of sleep like everybody else,” she explained. “But I know that I’m going to miss the babies. It is a part of my career that I loved. [It] brought me so much joy, but I’m blessed to be able to go out on a high note in my career.”

Dr. Simone reveals when she plans on stepping away from medicine

Dr. Simone shed more light on her retirement plans in a December interview with TV Insider, revealing when she plans on officially hanging up her hat.

“I’m still about five years away from retirement,” she said, before referring to her husband of 28 years. “I believe Cecil [Whitmore]  and I should just have the chance to travel and have a good time and enjoy life. Getting some sleep that I have missed for the last 30 years as an obstetrician. I’m also looking forward to more sleep.”

Dr. Simone Whitmore addresses retirement during heated family exchange

Dr. Simone touched on her retirement in Married to Medicine Season 12, Episode 3, which documented a tense family conversation about finances. The scene showed Dr. Simone and Cecil having an at-home dinner with their two adult sons, Miles Whitmore and Michael Whitmore, both of whom were preparing to graduate from college.

“Once Miles and Michael told me that they were gonna be graduating this year, all I have been able to think about is moving forward financially,” she said in a confessional. “Now, it’s time to pay bills, baby!”

However, Miles wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye to school, as he was set on earning a law degree. The issue? Well, Miles presumed that his mom would cover his tuition costs because she “makes pretty good money.”  But Dr. Simone made it very clear she wasn’t on board.

“I don’t feel like I should be footing the bill for anything other than the roof over your head, that sort of a thing,” she told her son. “The only one here at the table with an actual graduate doctorate degree is me. And how I did it was I got scholarship money and loans.”

Miles countered his mom, pointing out there were many “rich white kids” whose “parents pay for their way to do everything.”

“Who here at the table gives a f–k about how hard I’m working, instead of being able to move towards retirement?” she fired back. “The bottom line is you are so f–kin’ entitled. I’m done! I don’t owe you a motherf–king thing from here … I’ve given you everything I have to give!”

Is Dr. Simone paying for her son Miles’ law school tuition?

Dr. Simone told The Daily Dish she struggled to watch that scene, but was so upset over her son’s perceived entitlement and “financial situation.” (The episode also revealed that Miles had spent $60,000 on a credit card in one year alone.)

Since the heated dinner conversation, Dr. Simone and Cecil reached an “agreement” with Miles.

“He’s going to law school in the fall of 2026,” she confirmed. “And the agreement we have is that he will take loans for tuition, and I will support him, provided he cuts back on his fabulous, luxurious lifestyle. So, no more spending 60K on a credit card.”
