The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills newcomer Rachel Zoe’s engagement to Rodger Berman took place under some unexpected circumstances.
As seen on Season 15, Episode 11, Rachel revealed to Kyle Richards and Dorit Kemsley that she had “fooled around with” a model, back when she and Rodger were still only dating in the late ’90s. Shortly after she confessed to what she’d done, Rodger quickly popped the question.Â
On The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills After Show, Rachel spilled even more details about how the cheating incident ultimately led to her now-ex’s proposal. At the time, she was just beginning her styling career in New York City and primarily working with models when she booked a gig for a photo shoot in Miami.
“There was an absolutely stunning model,” she recalled. “He was flirting with me all day.”

After the shoot wrapped, they ultimately returned to her South Beach hotel and “fooled around,” as Rachel put it, adding, “The next day, I felt like I wanted to die.” Describing herself as a “fiercely loyal” person, she immediately told Rodger what happened.
“Then, literally, like, a few days later, he threw me my 23rd surprise birthday, and the next day, proposed in the Hamptons, that night,” she said.
According to Rachel, the model, whose name was censored on the After Show, was “the only guy” she ever kissed throughout the 33 years that she and Rodger were together.

The subject had arisen during RHOBH‘s Feb. 26 episode in the Hamptons, after Rachel brought up to her two castmates that it was the one-year anniversary of her and Rodger’s split.
While unpacking the demise of her marriage, Rachel explained that her estranged husband had only become “insecure” over the past six or seven years. In fact, she said at the beginning of their relationship, Rodger never held her back from jobs that required her to be “gone for three weeks at a time” or that involved her styling celebrities and supermodels who were “hitting on her all the time.”

“He was always like, ‘If they can get her, they can have her,'” Rachel told Dorit and Kyle. “But it worked, because I never cheated on him.”
Then came the incident with the model in Miami, which she estimated to have occurred roughly four years into them dating.
“I told him that I fooled around with this guy and I’m not joking, he proposed to me the next day,” Rachel continued. “He was so secure. He didn’t give a s–t. That’s what I’m saying: There is nothing about the person that is that resembles the person that was.”

Elsewhere in her heart-to-heart with Kyle and Dorit, Rachel also revisited the phone call from Rodger that effectively ended their marriage exactly one year earlier. At the time, Rachel’s now-ex was in Aspen, while she was in the Hamptons for a friend’s birthday celebration.
“Whatever happened happened, and then I just split open, and, like, I just remember literally being on the ground and I remember crying,” she shared. “We got into a big fight, and I was just like, ‘I’m done.'”Â
Without going into detail about exactly what Rodger had confessed to her on the call, Rachel told a producer, “Some things happen for reasons to force your hand. And in this case, that weekend … just made it real f–kin’ easy to go.”
A bit later, she added, “When that trust is broken, it’s, like, broken. There is no going back.”
As Rachel eventually concluded to her castmates, “He made it very clear that he was very happy in who he had become. I have to say thank you that it happened, whatever happened… because otherwise, I would’ve spent another six years being loyal, waiting for someone that I once knew to come back.”
