Actor Shia LaBeouf Arrested Again, Following New Orleans Mardi Gras Brawl – Crime Online

Actor Shia LeBeouf is facing another charge, following an arrest last month in New Orleans.

According to Court TV, police arrested LeBeouf Saturday an charged him with a misdemeanor count of simple battery, following a February 17 brawl during New Orleans’ Mardi Gras celebration.

LaBeouf’s lawyer, Sarah Chervinsky, said the actor turned himself in after learning New Orleans authorities issued an arrest warrant Friday.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, police initially arrested LaBeouf shortly after midnight on February 17, for allegedly creating a disturbance at a Royal Street business and hitting two people.

“Once removed from the building, the victim reported being struck by LaBeouf who used his closed fists on the victim several times,” New Orleans police said last month in a media release.

Bystanders attempted to hold the actor down, but when released, he hit the victim in the “upper body,” according to police.

“LaBeouf then reportedly assaulted another person — punching him in the nose,” police said. “LaBeouf was again held down until police arrived.”

Authorities charged LeBeouf with two counts of simple battery during the first arrest.

According to the Associated Press, Chervinsky stated that the second arrest is in connection with the February 17 incident, arguing that that a “regular” person typically isn’t jailed twice.

“No regular person would be required to post over $100,000 in bonds, and be jailed two separate times for one misdemeanor incident,” Chervinsky said.

“Just as he does not deserve preferential treatment, Mr. LaBeouf also does not deserve to be treated more harshly by the police and courts just because he is a public figure.”

Meanwhile, a judge ordered LeBeouf to return to drug and alcohol rehabilitation, while Chervinsky argued that “being drunk on Mardi Gras is not a crime.”
