A 13-year-old boy is in custody in Oklahoma after his mother was found shot to death in Colbert.
The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office said it was called shortly before 7 p.m. on Friday about a person found dead and arrived to find 31-year-old Malary Clayton with a gunshot wound.
Deputies called in the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to help with the probe, and agents identified the boy as a “person of interest.” The Oklahoma State Patrol put out an emergency alert for the boy and soon learned he had crossed the state line into Texas.
Texas authorities began looking for him and took him into custody in Grayson County at about 6:30 a.m. He is in custody at a juvenile detention center in Texas while the Bryan County District Attorney’s Office determines official charges.
He is booked on suspicion of first degree murder, KXII reports.
Authorities didn’t say how the boy got to Texas, although it’s not far — Grayson County borders Bryan County on the state line.
