HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (TCN) — A caregiver has been charged with attempted murder after a vulnerable adult was found living in severe neglect, according to authorities.
On May 30, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence to conduct a welfare check on a vulnerable adult. When they arrived, they had to force their way in because the front door had been nailed shut, according to a press release.
Once inside the home, deputies found that there was no electricity or running water. They made contact with the vulnerable man, “who was bedridden, nearly nonverbal, and living in severe neglect.” He was transported to the hospital for treatment, where medical professionals determined he was malnourished and emaciated.
An investigation ensued and the man’s primary caregiver, Shana Latrelle Saxon, was arrested and charged with attempted murder and neglect of a vulnerable adult, according to the sheriff’s office.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.
