MIAMI (TCN) — A 27-year-old woman has been arrested on charges of aggravated child abuse and child neglect in connection with the alleged treatment of her 8-year-old daughter.
NBC Miami reports that on June 5, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home to conduct a welfare check. They made contact with the girl, whose name has not been released, and noted she had several marks and scars on her body. According to an arrest report obtained by NBC Miami, the girl alleged that her mother, Naseline Timouche, hit her with a charging cable, frying pan, and spatula, sometimes waking her up to hit her for unknown reasons.
In addition, the girl alleged she was left alone at home for long periods of time and was not allowed to eat food in the house. Her mother allegedly told her food was for guests and she could eat expired food from the trash, per NBC Miami.
According to the arrest report, investigators spoke with a witness who said they let the child stay at their house, gave her clean clothes, and fed her. According to WLPG, neighbors often saw the child walking around alone. One neighbor, Simone Haritos, told the outlet, “I would try to help her, little things like cookies and water because I didn’t want to get into it with the parent.”
Timouche was arrested and charged the same day, booked into jail, and is being held without bond. At her hearing in children’s court on June 8, Timouche was ordered to undergo evaluations before having any contact with her daughter in the future, according to WPLG.
The outlet reports the child was born in Chile and that her father still lives there. She has been placed in foster care following her mother’s arrest.
