Parents charged with second-degree murder after 2-year-old dies of kratom and nitrous oxide overdose

CONYERS, Ga. (TCN) — The parents of a 2-year-old girl have been charged with second-degree murder after a toxicology report confirmed she died from an overdose of kratom and nitrous oxide.

According to the Conyers Police Department, officers responded to a report of an unresponsive child on May 3. The child, 2-year-old Naveah Wynn, was pronounced dead at a local hospital. During a search of the home following an investigation, detectives allegedly found used nitrous oxide canisters and an empty container that had held kratom capsules.

Toxicology was completed and Wynn’s death was classified as a homicide, police said. WSB-TV reports the medical examiner concluded she died of a drug overdose and traces of kratom and nitrous oxide were reportedly found in her system.

On Sept. 24, the child’s father, 30-year-old Rafael Pedron Wynn, and her mother, 28-year-old Kerri Dysart, were arrested in connection with the girl’s death, according to police.

Police announced on Oct. 1 that Pedron Wynn and Dysart were each charged with second-degree murder.

Pedron Wynn and Dysart are both behind bars without bond, CBS News reports. They are scheduled to appear in court for the first time on Oct. 7, Law & Crime reports.

The investigation is ongoing.
