The Paraguay midfielder faced a straight red card in the game against Turkey under FIFA’s new “Prestianni’s Law,” a rule designed to curb hidden discriminatory language.

The rule stems from an April 2026 IFAB vote that allowed red cards for mouth-covering during confrontations. FIFA made it optional, but chose to enforce it at World Cup 2026 to prevent off-record slurs.
Zlatan warned that one emotional mistake can destroy a team’s entire World Cup effort.
“Your country is watching. Then suddenly, one decision, one word, one unnecessary reaction changes everything,” he said.
As Turkey exited the tournament after the 1-0 loss, Almiron’s red card now symbolizes a new era of transparency in football confrontations.
