DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. (TCN) — A man and woman have been charged with murder in connection with the death of a man whose dismembered remains were found in a lake in May.
Tippah News reports that the remains of 37-year-old Jamal Rashad Parker were discovered in a reservoir near Atlanta, Georgia. His identity was confirmed via his tattoos and DNA testing.
The suspects were identified as Mario Barber, 46, and Brittany Baker, 42. They were arrested on June 16 and charged with murder, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators learned that Parker was likely killed inside a home where Baker lived, according to Tippah News.
A GoFundMe page set up by Parker’s uncle, Darryl McCoy, describes Parker as a beautiful soul. “He loved life and the people he met along his journey in life. He was a musical artist, visual artist, and a professional bartender who enjoyed creating new drinks. This has totally devastated our family and friends and has left us heartbroken.” On the page, McCoy alleges Parker knew and trusted those who killed him.
The Harian Basis reports that Parker’s father, Charles Parker, said of the suspects, “I want them to be punished. And I don’t even think a life sentence is good enough.”
Both Barber and Baker have extensive criminal histories, per Tippah News. They have pleaded not guilty and are being held without bond.
