HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas (TCN) —Â A 63-year-old man has been indicted for murder in connection with the killing of his 84-year-old father.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by KYTX, neighbors alleged Ronny Medford and his father Johnny Medford were seen arguing on May 11. They said Ronny Medford then left the home and they did not see Johnny Medford after that. One neighbor claimed the elder Medford had stated several times he was concerned his son would harm him.
Johnny Medford was found deceased in the home on May 11. A neighbor called authorities to report a strong odor, KETK reports, and said there might be a body inside a burn barrel on the property.
An affidavit obtained by KTYX says there was blood spatter on the walls, floor, and appliances of the laundry room, and there were allegedly drag marks leading to a burn barrel in the yard that contained suspected human remains.
According to the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, the United States Marshals arrested Ronny Medford 10 days later in the Dallas, Texas, area. A grand jury indicted him for murder on Aug. 13, per KYTX.
Ronny Medford has lengthy criminal history, according to KYTX. He was sentenced to five years in prison for assault in 2014 and received 319 days’ credit for time served after negotiating a plea deal. In 2019, he was sentenced to seven years for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He spent 496 days behind bars in credit for time served.
Medford is behind bars on $2.1 million bond, KLTV reports. He is scheduled to appear in court for his arraignment hearing on Sept. 14 and faces up to 99 years in prison if convicted.
