Inset: Irene Miller. Background: Cops in Florida arrest Miller after she allegedly left her four kids alone while she was in Las Vegas (Osceola County Sheriff’s Office).
A Florida mother allegedly left her four kids alone at home for days while she traveled to Las Vegas for work — and police say that while she was gone, her 9-year-old son hurt himself when he dropped a dumbbell on his head.
Irene Miller, 50, is facing four counts of child neglect, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
Deputies responded around 8:30 p.m. Oct. 21 to a home in the 3200 block of Parkway Boulevard in Kissimmee after a child called to say her 9-year-old brother dropped the weight on himself.

A responding deputy arrived to find the kids, ages 14, 12, 11 and 9, allegedly without adult supervision. The deputy called Miller, who said she was working in Las Vegas. She left on Oct. 18 and would return on Oct. 23, according to deputies.
Miller allegedly claimed that a babysitter would come from Tampa in the mornings to help the children get ready for school and check on them after school in the evenings. But the babysitter did not stay overnight with the kids, cops say.
The 9-year-old was treated at a hospital for his injuries and later released. The other kids were in good health, according to deputies.
Cops arrested Miller after she allegedly returned to Florida on Friday. She was taken to the Osceola County Jail, where she has since posted bond. Her next court date was not immediately listed.
“The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate child neglect. These cases will be investigated, and charges will be brought against the parents who are not properly supervising or caring for their children,” said Sheriff Chris Blackmon.
