“There was a show called Jon and Kate Plus Eight. And what the tabloids put out there is I’m the girl who ruined that marriage,” Hailey shared during RHONY’s Sept. 8 episode. “‘Mistress Hailey.’ ‘Homewrecking Hailey.’ ‘The mistress that ruined a family of eight.’ It wasn’t true.”

Hailey, a new RHONY cast member, opened up on Season 16, Episode 1 about how she first met Jon, and why they began dating. “The reason I dated Jon is because he was my mom’s friend, and she was like, ‘Oh, he’s a great guy!’” Hailey confessed to Erin Lichy. When Erin asked, “Your mom wanted you to date him?” Hailey answered, “Yeah.”
Hailey and Jon initially met when Jon stayed with Hailey’s father, plastic surgeon Lawrence Glassman, and her mother, in New York City following his separation from Kate. Hailey’s father performed Kate’s tummy tuck after the birth of her sextuplets, Extra reported at the time.

Why did Hailey Glassman and Jon Gosselin break up?
The fallout from Jon and Kate’s divorce was part of what led to the end of their relationship, Hailey told NBC Washington in Nov. 2009. In a separate interview that same month, she added, “As hard as it is for us, he needs to go handle his stuff, be with his family and handle his divorce, and I need to go and be a 22-year-old and get my life back.”

Hailey told People in July 2009 that her parents’ approval of their relationship was important to her. “They love him. They think of him as part of the family. They think things happen for a reason,” the then-22-year-old said at the time. “The most important thing is if someone fits in with my family … This is perfect. It just fits.”
Hailey shared more about her relationship with Jon during an E! News interview that aired in Aug. 2009. “He was living in my house — the person I joked around with,” she said of Jon staying at her family home following his separation from Kate. “He was sad and bored, I was home and bored.”

Hailey also revealed that she was serious about Jon. “[He’s my] first love,” she told the network. “I’m not some fame whore.”
She added of the rumors surrounding their relationship, “Jon and Kate have moved on with their lives. It’s only the viewers who haven’t moved on.”
Hailey also admitted at the time that the public scrutiny of her relationship with Jon was difficult on her. “I’m not some celebrity, I’m not some famous person — I’m just a 22-year-old girl who got caught in the middle of all this,” she said to the outlet. “Take my 15 minutes, you can have it back.”

Hailey is married and has not publicly disclosed her husband’s identity; however, she stated in the RHONY Season 16 trailer that they’re in a “lavender marriage.”
In an exclusive interview with Bravo Insider, Hailey added that her husband is a descendant of the “first Jewish settlers on Martha’s Vineyard.”
“We’ve known each other since he was 12 years old,” she continued. “We were neighbors in Martha’s Vineyard, and we met at sailing camp.”
