A woman in Indiana crossed the center line of a road and smashed into a man on an electric wheelchair, killing him, authorities say.
Kandice Baker, 45, has been charged with causing death when driving while intoxicated and possession of 5 to 10 grams of methamphetamine, according to Allen County court records reviewed by Law&Crime.
She is accused of killing 63-year-old David James Keen, according to the Allen County Coroner’s Office, area CBS affiliate WANE reported.

On Monday at about 10 p.m., Baker was driving west in an SUV on East Coliseum Boulevard in Fort Wayne, according to law enforcement. Keen was in the area too, on his electric wheelchair.
Keen was “traveling down the middle of the roadway” when Baker allegedly crossed the center line and struck him “from behind.”
The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the crash site, where the SUV had front-end damage, and the wheelchair was on its side. Keen was unconscious, and though he was cared for by medics, he was pronounced dead not long after.
Officers said that Baker was hyperactive at the scene, according to local CBS affiliate WKRC. She apparently said she had smoked marijuana about two hours before the collision, and investigators reportedly found a small plastic bag with about seven grams of meth.
Police said they did not believe speed played a part in the crash. Baker was arrested, booked in the Allen County Jail, and scheduled to undergo a drug recognition test.
She is set to appear in Allen County Superior Court on Sept. 21.
