VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (TCN) — A 59-year-old business owner has been charged with numerous counts in connection with a camera he allegedly hid inside the bathroom of his doggy day care center.
According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, employees at the Dog Dayz Inn called authorities on Sept. 5 after they allegedly found a camera inside an electrical outlet in the bathroom. A search warrant was executed at the business and an investigation began, assisted by detectives from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office Child Exploitation Unit.
Donald Hemphill, the owner of the business, allegedly admitted he had installed the camera several months ago. A search of his phone allegedly found video files containing women and a minor in various states of undress, according to the sheriff’s office.
In a pinned comment on their social media page, the sheriff’s office said, “For those wondering how the camera was found: An image from the camera was discovered first, on the defendant’s phone. That led to a closer inspection of the bathroom outlet and discovery of the camera.”
According to Yahoo! News, Hemphill is former Illinois police officer. During his arrest, he was allegedly wearing a “thin blue line” patch on his clothing that symbolizes support for law enforcement.
Hemphill was charged with 10 counts of digital voyeurism and 11 counts of video voyeurism of a child and was booked into jail, where he is being held without bond, according to the sheriff’s office.
