MORGAN HILL, Calif. (TCN) — A 37-year-old man has been booked into jail on suspicion of murder after police say he drove his deceased wife to a hospital and told staff he had killed her.
According to the Morgan Hill Police Department, Roy Anthony Lopez allegedly arrived at a hospital in San Jose, California, and reported that he had killed his wife, identified by SFGate as Jasmyne Garcia, 34.
A deceased woman was located in his car by first responders, and though they attempted lifesaving measures, she was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Lopez was detained without incident and booked into jail on suspicion of murder, according to police. Investigators conducted a protective sweep of Lopez’s home and found three children, ages 14, 6, and 3, safe inside. They were taken into the custody of children and family services, according to police.
SFGate reports Lopez allegedly fatally beat Garcia in front of the 6-year-old child. The child allegedly told investigators he hid under the bed while Lopez punched Garcia in the face and said, “Daddy got mad.”
Garcia was found bloody, almost unrecognizable, and suffering from severe facial injuries on Oct. 2 by the 14-year-old child, according to SFGate. Garcia reportedly lost consciousness overnight and was allegedly driven to the hospital the next day by Lopez, who allegedly confessed to staff.
NBC Bay Area reports Lopez was arrested on suspicion of rape in 2014, but those charges were dropped; in 2010, he was sentenced to volunteer work after an arrest for battery against a spouse or cohabitant after a fight in a public place.
A GoFundMe created by Jorge Garica describes the victim as someone who “had a beautiful way of bringing light, laughter and joy wherever she went. The love and happiness she gave to the people around her are impossible to put into words. She was a beloved daughter, a proud daddy’s girl, a sister to one but truly a sister to so many. She was the kind of person who made people feel loved and welcomed and her presence touched more lives than she may have ever realized.”
