Why did Bravo choose Potomac as the setting of a Real Housewives franchise?
Real Housewives executive producer Andy Cohen opened up about why Potomac was chosen as a franchise when RHOP Season 1 premiered in 2015.
“We didn’t go out saying we want to do another Housewives in the D.C. area—it was the last thing from our minds—but then these women emerged,” he shared in a Bravo Insider interview at the time.
He admitted that Potomac was an “unusual” choice for the next Real Housewives to be set. “It’s kind of this random location that people don’t necessarily identify with specifically, but, it means so much to the women that live there,” he said.
As he described the Season 1 cast, which includes Season 11 ‘Wives Gizelle, Ashley, Karen, and Robyn, he admitted he “[loved] the cast.” He added, “They’re very affluent, they have strong ties to the community, they’re very into etiquette.”
