A Wisconsin teenager who was drunk when he crashed into another driver and killed him has entered a plea in court.
Carter Green, 19, pleaded no contest to homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and causing injury while operating a vehicle under the influence on Monday, just over a year after the car crash that killed 27-year-old Casey Sjoberg. According to a criminal complaint reviewed by Law&Crime, Green was behind the wheel of his Chevy Malibu on the night of Oct. 4, 2025, when he ran a red light at approximately 130 to 145 mph and collided with Sjoberg”s Dodge Neon.
After police arrived at the scene and noticed “the odor of intoxicants,” they asked Green if he had been drinking. He responded, “Absolutely not.” Field sobriety tests indicated otherwise, police said, and he was later determined to have a blood alcohol content of 0.178 after a breath test, more than twice Wisconsin’s legal limit of 0.08 for drivers over the age of 21. Drivers under the age of 21 are not legally allowed to drive with any alcohol in their system.
Police said that when they encountered Green at the crash site, he appeared to be “clearly intoxicated” and “seemed to have no remorse or concern for the other people involved in the crash.” Green’s friend, who was asleep in the passenger seat of Green’s car at the time of the crash, told police that he and Green had been at a bonfire at a friend’s house before the pair headed to a strip club. The friend said he saw Green drink several beers at the bonfire and at the club.
Two days after the crash, Green’s passenger showed up at the Appleton Police Department and told a police sergeant that Green woke him up after the collision with Sjoberg’s car. Green’s friend told police that Green kept saying, “I’m screwed, I’m screwed, I’m screwed.” He further told police that he saw Green’s speedometer read 130 mph, adding that he believed Green was “hauling.” According to the complaint, Green had a new turbo installed in the car the day before the crash.
Sjoberg was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger was treated at the hospital for injuries he sustained in the crash.
Green is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 22.
