According to an incident report obtained by WIS, Thompson told police that he and his girlfriend were planning to go hunting using his crossbow. The couple reportedly got into a fight, and Thompson told police he left the crossbow in the bedroom, loaded with an arrow. Thompson claimed to police that he went into the living room and heard the crossbow go off.
When Thompson went to the bedroom to see what happened, he claimed he found his girlfriend with the crossbow arrow through her head.
Police said they began an investigation into the woman’s death that involved the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). As the investigation progressed, authorities spoke to family members of the woman, who said Thompson has a history of abusing her and her child.
According to online court records, Thompson is also charged with tattooing a child under the age of 18 and cruelty to children. Both cases were filed on the same day as the charge connected with his girlfriend’s death, but it is not clear whether the cases are related.
Thompson turned himself in to authorities on Oct. 31 and was booked into the Kershaw County Detention Center. He posted $47,500 bond and was released. His next court date was not publicly available.
