Johnson told deputies that she did fire at her husband after he entered the home without permission and struck her with a fist and a vacuum cleaner. Deputies observed a cut and bruising around her right eye, but the husband was not arrested.

Officials said Donelson Elementary School counsellor contacted the Department of Children’s Services after reading the girl’s story.

“Mother and father got into a fight. Mom told him to get out because he was smoking too much. Father hit the mother in the eye. Mother said look what you’ve done,” the young girl wrote. “Mother got the gun from under the bed. I was in the living room, and my sisters and brother were in the room. Mother pulled the gun on father and shot three times. The bullets hit the wall. Mother told him to sleep in his car in the driveway and not to come back or she will shoot him again.”

Deputies who responded to the home found Johnson outside. She told them she had been locked out for an hour and that two of her children were inside. The deputies forced their way in, and firefighters checked out the children, who were fine.

The deputies said they found several bullet holes in walls inside the house. Johnson told the deputies that at the time of the shooting, three of her children were sitting on the couch and the fourth was in the bathroom. Her husband was not hurt.

The children’s grandmother now has custody of two of the children, and an aunt has custody of the other two. Deputies seized two guns from the home.

Johnson was released from jail on her own recognizance and is due back in court on February 23.
