After robbing four banks in two months in Texas and Georgia, the criminal known as the ‘Playbook Pilferer’ has been arrested, the FBI announced Monday.
David Wayne Stanley, 58, was arrested Nov. 1 in Bleckley County, Georgia. According to the Chatham County Police Department, Stanley went to the Wells Fargo Bank in Berwick just after 11 a.m. Oct. 27 and demanded money. He then got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. The FBI, Bleckley County Sheriff’s Office and Chatham City Police Department arrested Stanley on a robbery by intimidation charge, a press release said. He was taken to the Chatham County Detention Center.
The same man robbed three banks in the Houston area in the September and October, according to the FBI. Stanley’s alleged crime spree began around 9 a.m. Sept. 18 at the Chase Bank located at 6910 FM 1960 in Houston. A suspect entered the bank, walked up to the counter and threatened the teller while demanding cash, the FBI said. The teller handed him an undisclosed amount of cash which he placed in a blue “playbook” folder he carried, a press release said.
He then ran away. No one was hurt.
Stanley is accused of striking again on Oct. 20. This time he robbed two banks within 30 minutes. First, he allegedly robbed a Wells Fargo in northwest Houston, followed by a Houston Federal Credit Union just down the street. He got cash in both cases before running into the neighborhood, authorities said.
Harris County also has a warrant for Stanley’s arrest.
Records show Stanley was previously sentenced to 10 years in prison for a 2009 armed robbery in Harris County.
