A wife acted “odd” and “inappropriate” after paramedics arrived at her home to take care of her dying husband, according to cops in New Haven, Indiana.
“At one point the Defendant was laughing with Medics and did not seem concerned about her husband’s injuries,” authorities wrote about Alison Kelly Davis, 33, in court documents obtained by Fort Wayne CBS affiliate WANE.
Investigators claim she told various stories to different people about her husband, Kevin Ray Davis, 40, falling down stairs at their home. That, coupled with his injuries being inconsistent with a fall, ended with prosecutors formally charging Alison Davis with murder on Wednesday.
“Due to the nature of the injury and Defendant’s inconsistent statements your affiant believes and has evidence to support that the Defendant knowingly and intentionally caused the death of Kevin Davis,” authorities wrote in a probable cause affidavit.
She was booked into the Allen County Jail on Friday with no bond, records show.
Cops and medics were called to the Davis home in the 1700 block of Douglas Lane at around 4:38 a.m. on Aug. 12, authorities said. They said they found Kevin Davis lying at the foot of stairs in a pool of his own blood. He was barely breathing. That afternoon, he died at a hospital.
Alison Davis allegedly told an array of stories about how her husband ended up at the foot of those stairs. For instance, investigators claim she told them that the two of them had been drinking at a bar that night and returned home at around 1 a.m. They had a fight. She intended on sleeping downstairs, and he went upstairs for bed. But she allegedly described hearing a “thud” and found him at the bottom of the stairs.
Kevin Davis’ mother, however, said that Alison Davis told her that Kevin Davis had not been drinking that night. The defendant also allegedly told her brother-in-law that she was in bed with their dog while her husband went walking around the home.
And though Alison Davis allegedly told her mother-in-law and brother-in-law about hearing a sound that night, she told medics that she did not hear anything and that it had been a while since she had seen him before the discovery of his body.
According to investigators, Kevin Davis suffered only head injuries. His core body temperature was so low that he was hypothermic by the time he reached the hospital. He had possibly been dead for hours.
The doctor “stated that she has had drowning victims with more oxygen in their brain,” investigators wrote.
According to the autopsy, Kevin Davis sustained a crushed right side of his skull, and a depression as if hit with blunt object
Online records show no defense lawyer for Alison Davis.
