FRESNO, Calif. (TCD) — A 14-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly killing his parents and initially claiming they were the victims of a violent intrusion.
On Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 7:40 p.m., a teenager called 911 to report his mother, father, and sister were attacked in a home invasion on the 47000 block of Dunlap Road. The boy reportedly said the suspect fled the scene in a pickup truck.
Fresno County deputies responded to the residence and found the caller’s father, Lue Yang, and mother, Se Vang, deceased inside. Yang and Vang were both 37 years old. The teen’s 11-year-old sister sustained “major injuries” during the attack and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, including surgery. Another child was also home at the time but was not injured.
As detectives began investigating, they reportedly determined there were “inconsistencies with what supposedly took place.” According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, the 14-year-old allegedly “fabricated the story of a break-in” and instead was “responsible for using multiple weapons to attack his family members.”
The teen was arrested and booked into a juvenile detention facility on two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
KSEE/KGPE-TV reports the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office filed the case in juvenile court.
Fresno County Sheriff John Zanoni held a press conference Dec. 29 and said detectives are still working to determine a motive for the killings.
He said, “The tragedy of the situation is of such a high magnitude because two children have lost their mother and father due to the actions by their other sibling. Those children will grow up without a mother and a father due to this incident.”
Zanoni said deputies did not have any prior contact with the teen or his family at the Dunlap Road residence.
When asked how the teen obtained the weapons, Zanoni explained, “When individuals live in rural areas of Fresno County like up here in the mountains, those individuals tend to have weapons readily available, whether it be knives, firearms, things like that for self-protection. Many people hunt and things like that, so it’s not uncommon for weapons to be readily available.”
He added, “Unfortunately, in this case, they were in the hands of a 14-year-old who used them in a very violent manner to kill both of his parents.”
