Jeaneane Marie Buckmeier passed away peacefully at her home in Sioux City, Iowa on May 18, 2025. Services will be private at this time. A Memorial Service will take place at Kesling Funeral Home on July 2, 2025 at 11:00 am at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge with inurnment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Mobridge, South Dakota, with the coordination of Meyer Brothers Funeral Home in Sioux City and under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge.
Jeaneane was born on April 17, 1936, to Ed and Nora Szczurek in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She graduated from Cathedral High School in Sioux Falls. She attended college in Madison, Wisconsin and would later transfer to the University of South Dakota. She graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in Elementary Education in 1958.
Jeaneane met the love of her life, Anthony “Tony” Buckmeier, while attending the University of South Dakota. They were married at the Cathedral of Sioux Falls in 1958. They lived in Vermillion, South Dakota, where Jeaneane taught 2nd grade while Tony finished law school. Their first son, Anthony Mark was born in 1960 followed by Brian Edward in 1962.
Jeaneane and Tony moved to Mobridge, South Dakota where Tony established his law practice in 1961. Jeaneane was a loving wife and mother. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mobridge. She enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family and friends. Jeaneane had a large circle of friends. She participated in many activities including church events, bridge club, PEO, Jaycees, Arts and Travels, and meeting her lady friends for coffee at Homespun.
Jeaneane enjoyed traveling with Tony. They visited most of the U.S. states, Mexico, and much of Canada. She traveled to the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Spain with her son and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Being an only child, Jeaneane was very close to Tony’s siblings and spent many holidays and special occasions with Duane and Rose Buckmeier in Prairie City and Darlene and Arnold Peck in Bowdle, South Dakota, and their families. Tony and Jeaneane were married 54 years before his passing in 2013. They were able to visit 47 states, Mexico, and most of Canada. She was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Family was her greatest joy.
Jeaneane moved to Sioux City from Mobridge in 2016 to be near family. She will be greatly missed by her sons, family and friends, and personal caregiver for the past few years, Patricia Christian.
She was preceded in death by her husband Tony; parents, Ed and Nora; daughter-in-law, Shelly (Tony) Buckmeier; and grandson, Grant Buckmeier.
She is survived by her sons, Tony Buckmeier, of Fairfax, Virginia, and Brian (Frances) Buckmeier of Sioux City; granddaughters, Allyson Buckmeier of Raleigh, NC, Lindsey Buckmeier of New York City, NY; and grandsons, Carter and Adam Buckmeier of Dakota Dunes, SD.
