Boston police are looking for a man they say attacked a driver and his vehicle with a hatchet in a late Friday night road rage incident.
Investigators have identified the suspect as 27-year-old Andrew Oprian and issued a warrant charging him with assault with a dangerous weapon and malicious destruction of property, WCVB reported.
“The suspect reportedly chased the victim in his vehicle at a high rate of speed, causing the victim to crash,” the Boston Police Department said in a statement. “The suspect then exited their vehicle (gray pickup truck) with a hatchet, assaulted the victim, and vandalized the victim’s vehicle after they fled, breaking the windows and windshield. The suspect fled on Babcock Street in the direction of Brookline.”
Police released videos showing the violent attack, showing Oprian smashing the victim’s car windows.
According to Boston 25, the incident took place shortly before midnight. A witness told the station that the victim was driving a Toyota Prius, while the suspect chased him at a high rate of speed in a pickup truck.
“He had no idea why the guy had been following him. He had no clue. He was shocked,” said witness Matt Silva.
Oprian remains at large.
