ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (TCN) — A 24-year-old man pleaded not guilty to hitting a young girl over the head with a glass bottle and slashing her with it because she was in his way.
According to the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office, on April 25, an 8-year-old girl was reportedly looking for a water fountain in a restaurant when she crossed paths with Nichalas San Souci. San Souci allegedly broke a beer bottle over her head and “sliced her neck” with it. The victim went to the hospital and required 19 stitches.
On March 16, the district attorney’s office announced a grand jury indicted San Souci on charges of abuse of a child resulting in great bodily harm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
San Souci and the victim did not know each other prior to the interaction.
KOAT-TV reports San Souci said he attacked the girl because “she got in my way.”
San Souci is in custody at the Bernalillo County Jail without bond.
