Dwight Eubanks has confirmed he’s been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The longtime friend to the cast of The Real Housewives of Atlanta is opening up about his diagnosis and is encouraging others to be aware of their health.
The Atlanta salon owner spoke with People on June 2, where he revealed that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in April. “I was shocked. I was angry,” he said. “I was just emotionally a wreck.”
“When you hear the word cancer, you freak out. I’m human,” he admitted. “Society has told us that cancer was just devastating, and you know, you just have days to live. So, of course, I freaked out and I think I’m still freaked out.”
Dwight has a family history of prostate cancer. He told the publication that he wanted to open up about this diagnosis to bring awareness to the cause. “What’s amazing about it is that I feel like a higher power has been preparing me for this moment to be a light of hope for others,” he admitted. “I could not be silent with this because it could help people if they just get tested and don’t wait too long.”

Dwight and his team of doctors are currently “exploring possibilities” for treatment. “But I feel good,” he told People. “I’m 64, that’s young to me…We’re all going to go through something. But when we reach those bridges, you have to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and carry on. Because life really is a beautiful thing.”

Dwight is a longtime Atlanta resident, owner of Purple Door Salon, and “global man of style,” according to his Instagram account, who made frequent appearances on the early seasons of RHOA. Dwight just recently celebrated his 64th birthday in March, taking to Instagram to post a photo in which he’s wearing a black and white blazer while blowing out a candle.

Dwight also returned to Bravo earlier this year when he made an appearance on Married to Medicine Season 11, Episode 7. where he discussed outfits for an upcoming gala with his longtime friend, Phaedra Parks. When he showed off his eclectic suit jacket, Phaedra commented on how “in sync” their outfits were.
“That’s what we do,” he noted.

During an April 2022 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Andy admitted that Dwight was one of his favorite “side characters” of all time from the Real Housewives franchise. “Dwight on Atlanta was amazing,” he said. “It might be Dwight.”
