It’s not easy to look your best when living on the farm, and Calah Jackson knows that all too well.
From The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys, the admitted city girl from Dallas, Texas, shared her advice about looking your best when on the farm. She described navigating the rural life after moving in with her boyfriend, Steven McBee Jr., in Gallatin, Missouri, a place Steven Jr., himself, noted as “out in the middle of nowhere.”
Dusty roads, cattle driving, and horse riding are all sure ways to keep anyone from looking tip-top. As seen in Season 1, Episode 3 — now available to watch on Peacock — an exchange between the tumultuous pair focused on Calah’s attire, and had the eldest McBee brother asking, “Have you ever seen what the people of Gallatin wear?”
Calah revealed in an exclusive interview with Bravo’s The Daily Dish that looking her best took “a lot of improvisation.”
Calah Jackson’s No. 1 beauty secret for the farm
Calah’s biggest takeaway for looking one’s best on the farm was simple: “Less is more.”
“I think especially on the farm, and in the summertime … I mean, you’re outside all the time; you’re working with animals; you’re in rural America, so I think for me, it was just, ‘Less is more’ in terms of makeup,” she said.
Coming from Dallas, a city of about 1.3 million residents, and packing her bags for Gallatin, a town of only about 1,800 people, Calah had to make do with what was available to her.
“It was obviously a huge adjustment for me, going up to the farm full time,” she said. “Because in Gallatin, the only store that you can get skincare, or even makeup that’s close by, is the Dollar Tree.”
Calah had to “improvise”
Being a girl on the farm certainly posed its challenges. When cast members from The McBee Dynasty offered their best farm-living tips to the Housewives, Kacie Adkison even warned, “Don’t wear cute shoes.”
“There were many times where I had to improvise and get something from Dollar Tree, but I’m definitely more of a Sephora, Ulta, Target girl, and so there’s a lot of improvisation,” Calah continued to The Daily Dish. “You just make it work.”
And the women on the farm, including Kacie, Alli Ventresca, Kristi McBee, and Galyna Saltkovska, certainly do make it work.
Calah “got along the best” with …
Of the women on the McBee farm and ranch, The Daily Dish asked Calah which of the women she felt closest to.
“Throughout my time with filming Season 1 and Season 2, and just everything in between, with me living in Missouri, I think Kacie and I really got along the best,” Calah said. “I love Alli as well. She just wasn’t around very much because she was always in [Kansas City], so Kacie and I were able to spend a lot of time together, and we just have very similar personalities.”
Calah also teased that fans would see her “spend a little bit more time” with Steven Sr.’s ex-girlfriend, Galyna, in the upcoming season.
“I am trying to be a friend to her,” Calah continued. “She was going through a rough patch, and [I was] trying to help her see through some things.”
Calah said she still keeps up with Kacie and Alli via social media and remains “super happy” to see their major milestones.
“It’s really exciting.”
