Ainsley Earhardt Reminds Viewers of Trump’s $5k Pledge if Republicans Win Midterms

What To Know

  • Fox & Friends hosts urged Republicans to vote as House Speaker Mike Johnson predicted a GOP victory.
  • Lawrence Jones said Trump supporters have ‘got to show up and vote.’
  • Ainsley Earhardt reminded viewers that Trump pledged $5,000 to every adult U.S. citizen.

As the November midterm elections draw closer, Fox and Friends hosts Lawrence Jones and Ainsley Earhardt were quick to remind Republicans to get out and vote on Thursday’s (October 29) show.

The Fox News anchors made the comments as House Speaker Mike Johnson joined them on Thursday morning. Johnson dismissed concerns of a “blue wave” and claimed the polls are going to be “historically wrong” in this midterm election. Current polls predict Democrats taking control of the House and the Senate.

Fellow cohost Brian Kilmeade asked Johnson what specifically makes him “optimistic” about going against pollsters who say the House is already in Democratic hands. Johnson claimed to have “extraordinary” candidates, “superior candidates over the Democrats,” and “a better record to run on.”

He went on to say that the Republicans have delivered on their promises, “brought down costs, cut their taxes, made their streets safer, [and] returned to American dominance.”

“I think voters are savvy and I think they’re paying attention to this,” Johnson continued. “I think we’re going to win because it’s a contrast again between common sense and absolute crazy.

Jones then chimed in and urged Republicans to get out and vote. “That’s why the people gotta show up, Mr. Speaker,” he said. “All the Republican voters, everyone that is at the president’s rallies. Big numbers. They got to show up and vote no matter what tricks that the Democrats may play in this election.”

Earhardt interjected to remind viewers of an important pledge Trump made on September 9. “And if you’re right, if Republicans win the House and the Senate, everyone gets $5,000 from Donald Trump,” she said.

“That’s what he said,” Johnson replied, laughing.

Kilmeade laughed in response, saying, “He’s got to deliver!”

Trump made the pledge during the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, last month. “If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, because of our tremendous economic success, like, in history we’ve never had anything like what’s happening, but because of our tremendous strength and success economically, I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000,” he stated.

The president has faced scrutiny over this promise, with many wondering how he plans to pay for this when the country is trillions of dollars in debt. Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham asked Trump that exact question when she interviewed him on September 10.

“The obvious response to that is, we’re $40 trillion in debt; how is that financially responsible or even doable?” she asked.

Trump didn’t answer the question directly, but claimed the U.S. is taking in $21 trillion “because of the beautiful word you and I love more than most others: tariffs.”

While he didn’t explain how he plans to fund these payments, Trump’s response suggested he’d use revenue from his controversial tariffs. However, critics have noted that the billions made from the tariffs would not be enough to fund a $1.3 trillion payout.
