Alex Murdaugh maintained his innocence during his sentencing hearing on Friday, a day after he was convicted of his wife and son’s 2021 murders.
Dressed in brown prison garb, Alex stood up to tell the court, “I’m innocent. I would never hurt my wife Maggie. I would never hurt my son Pa-Pa.” Amid comments from Judge Newman, Alex reiterated that he would under “no circumstances” hurt his wife Maggie and son Paul.

Jurors heard 28 days of testimony from character witnesses, experts, and even Alex himself. However, it took them no more than three hours to hand down a guilty verdict.
During sentencing, Judge Newman called Alex’s claims “not credible” before handing down two consecutive life sentences.
