PHOENIX (TCN) — A 31-year-old man was allegedly seen on camera breaking into the medical examiner’s office and having sexual contact with several bodies, authorities say.
According to KSAZ, officers from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a potential burglary at the medical examiner’s office. Security footage allegedly showed Fenris Lu, 31, opening 11 different body bags and having sexual contact with four deceased bodies. Authorities found Lu during a search of the building and he was taken into custody.
Court records for the case have been sealed, but according to jail records obtained by KTAR, Lu was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on four counts of necrophilia, one count of burglary, one count of possessing burglary tools, one count of criminal damage, and one count of attempting to escape from custody.
Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dave Moyer said, “Out of respect for those potentially impacted and to protect the integrity of the investigation, no additional details are being released at this time,” according to KTAR.
KPNX reports Lu was scheduled to appear in court on May 20 but was not present because he was “high-profile and combative.” At the hearing, prosecutors said family members of victims are being notified of the incident.
According to KSAZ, Lu’s bond was set at $500,000. His next court date is scheduled for May 29. The investigation is ongoing.
