SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (TCN) — A 49-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly firing multiple rounds at an apartment complex when he got angry that his neighbors would not do cocaine with him.
According to court documents obtained by KSAZ, on Oct. 15 at about 10:45 a.m., police were dispatched to an apartment building after receiving a report of an active assault. Investigators learned that Samuel Sedgwick allegedly entered an apartment uninvited and offered the residents cocaine. He was reportedly in a visibly altered state, and when the residents declined his offer, Sedwick allegedly said that refusing was “offensive to his culture.” He then allegedly removed his shirt and began to beat one of the residents.
Another resident stepped in when he worried that Sedgwick would kill the man he was beating, and he hit Sedgwick in the head with a claw hammer. Sedgwick then allegedly took a gun out of his backpack, brandished it while making threats, pistol-whipped the man he had allegedly beaten, and doused the residence with pepper spray, per KSAZ.
When Sedgwick got home and he realized the hammer had chipped his tooth, he allegedly returned to the apartment complex and began firing multiple rounds, per KSAZ. Police arrived as Sedgwick was leaving on his bicycle, and he was apprehended. His gun was reportedly found near a dumpster, and a search warrant executed at Sedwick’s apartment allegedly found matching ammunition, pepper spray, and a bag of white powder.
The victim of the alleged beating was treated at the hospital for a head injury and may have also suffered broken ribs, according to KSAZ.
According to the New York Post, Sedgwick has a past criminal history including charges for domestic violence and aggravated assault in 2020.
The Scottsdale Independent reports Sedgwick is in jail facing multiple felony charges.
Sedgwick’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 28, per KSAZ.
