A Utah teen who vanished last week was found dead late Wednesday, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.
Utah County Search and Rescue official believes the body of 19-year-old McKenna Miner has been found in American Fork Canyon. Fox 13 reports that loved ones reported her missing Tuesday after she left for a hike near Tibble Fork Reservoir and failed to return home.
At this time, police believe Miner took her own life.
“There were signs that this was somebody who was struggling with mental health issues,” Sgt. Dallin Turner said.
Turner added that the scene will be processed and the body will be turned over to the medical examiner for identification and official cause of death.
“It’s very common when we talk to folks in this age group that they report feeling like they’re not good enough or have a hard time separating that social media can be a highlight reel of someone’s life and not the full picture of what’s going on,” Rachel Lucynski, director of community crisis intervention and support services, told Fox 13.
