A California fire captain is behind bars, accused of gunning down his girlfriend and her young son at his home last week.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said it was called to Darin McFarlin’s home in Cameron Park at about 9 p.m. on Thursday and found a woman, later identified as 29-year-old Marissa N. Divodi-Lessa, dead from gunshot wounds. The young boy was gravely wounded and taken to a hospital, where he died.
Investigators quickly identified McFarlin, 47, as. “person of interest” in the murders, and he was located in Mono County just after midnight on Friday and booked into jail in El Dorado County on two murder charges without bail.
The sheriff’s office said another child was found in the home but was physically unharmed. No information was provided about that child.
Family members identified to murdered child as Josiah Divodi-Lessa, and the Buckeye Union School District said he was a second-grade student at Blue Oak Elementary School, KCRA reported.
The station said that McFarlin is a captain for the Amador El Dorado unit, which is battling a nearby wildfire that was 37 percent contained on Sunday. CalFire said it was closely monitoring the murder situation.
