RIVERSIDE, Calif. (TCD) — A 27-year-old man is in custody after allegedly killing his elderly roommate and shooting and injuring his girlfriend while she was visiting.
On Sunday, March 31, shortly after 12 p.m., officers with the Riverside Police Department responded to a home in the 7600 block of Canberra Way in reference to a possible shooting. Police quickly apprehended the suspect, Christopher Lennox, after he was pointed out to officers.
Law enforcement entered the home and found 75-year-old Robert Mageno suffering from gunshot wounds. Riverside Fire Department personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but Mageno died from his injuries.
According to police, officials found a female gunshot victim across the street. Paramedics treated her and transported the victim to a hospital in critical condition.
Police learned Lennox and Mageno lived together with other roommates at the home. Lennox’s girlfriend was reportedly visiting him, and they got into a dispute. Lennox grabbed a gun and allegedly shot his girlfriend before she fled across the street.
Mageno then came out of his room and Lennox shot him as well, police allege.
Officers recovered a handgun inside the residence they believe was used in the shooting.
Lennox was arrested on charges of murder, attempted murder, domestic violence, and weapons violations. He remains held in the Riverside County Jail on $1 million bail.
