SANTA CLARA, Calif. (TCD) — Police arrested a 24-year-old man this week on suspicion of killing his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son.
On Tuesday, Feb. 20, at approximately 2:25 a.m., officers with the Santa Clara Police Department responded to the 3700 block of Poinciana Drive after a woman called and said her live-in boyfriend shot her young son.
Police said officers arrived “within minutes of the call.”
Officers found the victim inside the home with a gunshot wound. Officials performed CPR, but ultimately, the boy was was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators recovered a handgun in the home.
Police said they found the caller’s boyfriend, Sergio Gomez, near the residence and took him into custody following a brief struggle.
Gomez was transported to a hospital for minor injuries. He is in police custody and will be booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on a charge of murder upon his release.
