EATON, Colo. (TCD) — A 34-year-old man will spend over five decades behind bars for fatally stabbing his mother inside her home in 2021.
The Weld County District Attorney’s Office announced that a judge sentenced Gabriel Faudoa on Thursday, Jan. 18, to 48 years for the second-degree murder of his mother, June Faudoa. He was also given three years for aggravated motor vehicle theft to be served consecutively. A jury convicted him of the charges in November 2023.
According to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, on May 11, 2021, at approximately 7:40 a.m., deputies responded to the 400 block of Wall Street after an individual called authorities to report that a person had been killed in their home.
At the scene, deputies found Faudoa’s mother with multiple cuts and knife wounds to her torso and neck, as well as stab wounds to her hands and arms, the Greeley Tribune reports. The stab wound on her neck was reportedly so deep it had been cut to the bone.
Investigators observed some wounds on the victim they believe had been inflicted after her death.
After stabbing his mother 54 times, Faudoa reportedly stole his father’s Chevy Impala and fled the scene. Law enforcement officers located Faudoa walking back toward the home and took him into custody.
During his trial, Faudoa reportedly argued he suffered a methamphetamine-induced psychotic episode at the time of the attack.
At the sentencing hearing, Deputy District Attorney Travis Winter said, “This is not merely a case about drug abuse or making an isolated ‘poor decision.’ This is a case of evil, pure and simple.”
In 2019, Faudoa was convicted of second-degree assault for strangling an individual and was sentenced to six years in prison. According to the sheriff’s office, after serving 20 months in prison, he was paroled.
