On Wednesday, Florida police asked the public for information regarding last month’s shooting that left an elderly couple dead.
Major and Claudette Melvin, 89 and 85, were found dead at their Fort Lauderdale home on March 22. WTVJ reported that no arrests have been made even though detectives have been following leads for the past couple of weeks.
According to WSVN, a family member said they were sleeping at the Melvins’ home when he heard shots fired. The family member called his sister, who called the police.
Fort Lauderdale police revealed that the Melvins’ car — a 2014 red Ford Fusion with Florida tag LTDQ16 — is missing and it may be related to their homicide investigation.
WSVN reported that the killer did not take $500 that was in Major’s pocket or $400 that was in Claudette’s bag.
“They shot him point blank with a nine-millimeter,” the couple’s daughter said. “She was shot as well, in the chest, and she fell back.”
WTVJ reported that a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information resulting in an arrest. Anyone with information about the Melvins’ murder or their missing car can call Fort Lauderdale police at 954-828-5546.
