D.C. newborn died of blunt-force trauma during domestic violence incident, police say

WASHINGTON (TCN) — A 2-month-old girl was found dead of blunt-force injuries in what investigators believe was a domestic violence situation.

On Aug. 16, Metropolitan Police Department officers arrived at an apartment in Washington, D.C.’s Navy Yard neighborhood after receiving a report of an unconscious infant, WJLA reports. First responders encountered a witness in the lobby who was holding the baby, WUSA reports.

The girl, Khamyah Honesty, was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to WJLA, and her death was ruled a homicide following an autopsy. WTOP reports investigators said the death had “domestic overtones” but did not elaborate further or name a suspect.

Neighbor Henry Weid told WJLA, “There’s just so much innocence, it’s a little kid, it can’t defend themselves. It’s the worst thing you’ve ever heard.”

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed as of Aug. 19, WJLA reports.
