A 28-year-old Pennsylvania man allegedly broke his 5-month-old’s femur because he was frustrated the baby was moving too much during a diaper change.

Brian Scott Eshleman Jr. stands accused of aggravated assault of a victim younger than 6 by an offender older than 18 and two counts of endangering the welfare of children, the Manheim Township Police Department said in a press release.

Doctors diagnosed the baby with a broken right femur. Because the infant had “limited mobility,” hospital staff determined that the injury was not self-inflicted and there was no explanation other than child abuse, cops wrote.

A broken leg causes “substantial pain” and results in “impairment,” officers said.

The baby had to be transferred to a specialized hospital for treatment. After being examined by the hospital’s child protection team, staff called police, which sparked the investigation.

Detectives spoke with a witness who said Eshleman called and said the victim was “crying hysterically” and wouldn’t stop, which the suspect said was unusual.

Cops then interviewed Eshleman. He admitted to using more “force” than usual during a diaper change at his home on Knollwood Drive in Manheim Township, which is about 75 miles west of Philadelphia. He said he heard an audible “pop” in the baby’s leg, according to police.

“Eshleman said he was frustrated with the victim because they kept moving while he was trying to change the diaper,” officers said.

The defendant was arrested on Oct. 19 and taken to the Lancaster County Jail, where he has since posted a $150,000 bond. His next court date is set for Nov. 25.
