As explained in Episode 5, the foursome’s mutual friends Katie Arundel and Matt Arundel had shown Danielle and Eoin some group chat messages that included a screenshot from a blog post about the false allegations, along with Amanda and Kyle’s commentary on the personal matter.

“Just for Eoin and myself, I think we just wanted to clear up who sent it into the group chat,” Danielle explained in an exclusive June interview. “Because I guess I think about my group chats and when I’m sending a screenshot of an article, I’m doing it to gossip. So I like to know what the motive behind something like that might be. I just wanted to understand like who it was and why.”

She went on to elaborate that her intentions for addressing the issue with Amanda and Kyle directly during the group’s Loverboy-sponsored trolley ride around New York City were also to find out if they “believe it” and whether or not she and Eoin “needed to further clarify” the truth of the matter.

“It wasn’t meant to blow up quite the way that it did,” Danielle concluded. “It was a bummer how that whole trolley ride went down, to be honest.”

Amid the In The City cast’s “guerrilla marketing” outing on behalf of Kyle’s Loverboy brand, Yvonne Najor mentioned the “public scrutiny” that Danielle and Eoin had been under. She clarified, however, that she wasn’t referring to anyone in their friend group as having been participants in the ongoing relationship chatter.

However, Eoin corrected Yvonne, detailing what he and Danielle had learned about Amanda and Kyle’s messages with Katie and Matt. Danielle, for her part, chimed in to say that the situation had been “hurtful,” further claiming that she would never be “talking about stuff” going on in Kyle and Amanda’s marriage in a group chat.

Declaring that Danielle’s anger was misplaced, Amanda fired back, “I think that’s a conversation you have to have with Katie and Matt then, because it’s a group chat, right? So, like, this is something they brought to our attention. It’s a conversation that the four of us have been having, so that wasn’t the first time it’s been brought up in a conversation.”

Regardless, Danielle didn’t buy Amanda’s defense and continued struggling to understand why her former Summer House castmates would be trying to “perpetuate a rumor in a group chat” behind her and Eoin’s backs at all. Amid more yelling back and forth, Danielle finally stated, “Honestly, I’m good. You put it in the group chat, and I thought we were better friends and maybe that you would check in.”

After reiterating that Katie and Matt were the guilty parties, Amanda also told Danielle to stop acting as if she had never “seen a headline [and] sent it to a friend.” She further accused Danielle of “just [talking] to the blogs” directly anyway, before asking, “Is that not the truth?” That statement was the final straw for Danielle, who swiftly exited the trolley, shouting more denials on her way out.

Andrea Denver and Lexi Sundin, meanwhile, followed Danielle off the trolley. When Lindsay Hubbard eventually joined them, Danielle was crying in Lexi’s arms, asking, “Why did she just say that?”

Later in the June 16 episode, Danielle met up with Lindsay, who asked if she was OK, pointing out, “When we left that trolley, you were not well. Like, it was like you were really upset.” As Danielle explained to her, “I hate storming out crying. … [Amanda] was basically, like, insinuating that it was true.”

She elaborated in a confessional, “The homewrecker word, it’s very triggering for someone who’s Latina, and you’re seen a certain way. You’re always the mistress. I mean, Maid in Manhattan. It’s just like we’re not deserving of something, and that homewrecker term, it just brings me back to, like, not being good enough, not being worthy of something. That’s why it sets me on fire.”

Back in her chat with Lindsay, Danielle doubled down on her denials that she’d broken up Eoin’s marriage and explained that his divorce was still “underway” at the time. “I think it’s just a matter of time and paperwork,” she updated Lindsay on the legal proceedings. “I just feel like to put a definitive timeline on it is silly. But, like, he wants to get married, he wants to have kids.”
