Elderly man allegedly shot woman, her teenage daughter, then himself amid neighborhood feud

HOUSE SPRINGS, Mo. (TCN) — A 73-year-old man allegedly shot his neighbor and her 17-year-old daughter in the head before turning the gun on himself. 

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Robert Winkelman was allegedly frustrated with his neighbors and went to their home July 25 to discuss activity at the residence. A 38-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, reportedly made a comment to Winkelman. He then allegedly took out a handgun and shot her in the head. The victim’s daughter, 17, was also present, and Winkelman allegedly shot her in the head as she was attempting to provide first aid to her mother.

When deputies arrived, Winkelman was outside his own house and shot himself in the head when approached, police say. The victims and Winkelman are hospitalized in critical condition, according to the sheriff’s office. 

The investigation revealed Winkelman had ongoing frustration with activities at the neighbor’s house, but these alleged activities have not been specified. He was charged with two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of armed criminal action, and a no-bond warrant has been issued for his arrest while he remains in custody at the hospital. 

The investigation is ongoing.
