Fla. woman accused of killing man, burying him in shallow grave arrested after 2 months on the run

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (TCN) — A 38-year-old woman accused of killing a missing man and burying him in a shallow grave earlier this year has been apprehended by U.S. Marshals after allegedly spending two months on the run.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office announced that Isabelle Johnson was arrested Aug. 13 after a Cyber Crimes Unit tracked her location to Cottondale, Florida. “We got her,” the sheriff’s office stated in a social media post.

Johnson was wanted on an open count of murder in connection with the death of 43-year-old Jason Coulthart, according to the sheriff’s office. He was found in a shallow grave in June and had been reported missing the month prior. According to the sheriff’s office, investigators learned where Coulthart’s body was located after allegedly receiving information from an inmate at the Okaloosa County Jail on June 25.

According to an arrest report obtained by People, a search warrant was executed at the property indicated by the inmate and Coulthart’s body was found in a concrete-covered grave with a car parked on top of it. He reportedly had a zip tie around his neck. A witness told police they were aware that Johnson had allegedly killed Coulthart because he was “aggravating and irritating her.”

WJHG reports Johnson’s alleged communication with another person allowed them to track her location; five people have been arrested in connection with the case. Investigators allege Johnson acted as a victim to gain people’s trust and assistance.

People reports that during her time on the run, Johnson allegedly used six different aliases and identities. According to the sheriff’s office, Johnson “frequently moves locations and often convinces others to help her by telling sympathetic stories involving domestic violence or other personal hardships,” per People.

Coulthart’s online obituary reads, “An electrician by trade, Jason found deep satisfaction in working hard, guiding others, and helping people grow and succeed. Beyond his professional life, he enjoyed fishing, boating, watching sunrises and sunsets, and playing basketball with his son. Jason will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and generous spirit, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.”

According to the sheriff’s office, additional charges are expected and the investigation is ongoing.
