CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (TCN) — A 47-year-old man has been charged with aggravated battery on a person 65 years of age or older after he allegedly slashed an elderly victim across the face with a box cutter.
On Oct. 10, a 70-year-old man was shopping at Publix supermarket when he said he felt as though he had been punched in the left side of his face, according to Us magazine. He then saw Ramsey Thomas Lyons allegedly staring at him while holding a box cutter.
The victim, whose name has not been released, ran for help when he realized he was bleeding, according to Us magazine. Lyons was apprehended near the store entrance, and a box cutter was recovered from the scene. According to an affidavit, Us magazine reports, Lyons allegedly told authorities he has an undiagnosed mental illness and dislikes the 1960s era. He claimed he attacked the victim because he “looked like he was from the 1960s.”
WINK reports Lyons claimed he felt like “acing him out,” and clarified that that meant he wanted to kill the victim. He said he dropped the box cutter because he did not want police to use a Taser on him.
Lyons allegedly told authorities he did not know the victim and chose him at random but had been thinking about attacking someone for days prior to allegedly doing so, per Us magazine. He was arrested and charged with aggravated battery on a person 65 years of age or older. The victim needed stitches for the wound on his face, which extended down his jawline to his neck, but is in stable condition.
Lyons is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 16, according to Us magazine.
